Disability Rights South Carolina (DRSC) is a private, statewide nonprofit which protects and advocates for the legal, civil and human rights of people with disabilities. DRSC believes that people with disabilities are people first, and are the primary decision makers in all areas of their life. Our goals include Safety and Protection, Community Integration, and Equal Access for people with disabilities.  This position plays a vital role in achieving these goals.

An Administrative Assistant of Disability Rights South Carolina (DRSC) shall work under the general supervision of the Finance and Human Resource Manager.  This position is classified as salaried – nonexempt from overtime pay under federal Department of Labor regulations.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:


Receive and relay phone messages and receive clients and visitors in a pleasant, respectful, and professional manner.

Screen telephone calls and facilitate referral to appropriate staff member.

Process incoming and outgoing mail.

Maintain an efficient and effective office filing system.

Assist other staff with correspondence, copying, faxing, printing, etc.

Perform other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers and typing correspondence.

Maintain order in workroom, tracking supplies for office machines and assisting other staff with copying, faxing, printing, etc.  Keep track of office supplies and order as needed.

Maintain record of DRSC outreach/training activities and of DRSC media items for use with annual program reports.  Provide annual reports to DRSC staff completing federal program reports.

Serve as liaison for IT issues and building maintenance needs.

Perform other duties as requested.

Required Qualifications:

Must be able to pass and maintain Level 5 Federal Security Clearance

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in secretarial science, office administration or related field; or Associate degree from an accredited college or technical school in secretarial science, office administration or related field with two years’ applicable experience; or a high school diploma or its equivalent with five years’ applicable experience.

Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Disability Rights South Carolina and to the civil rights of people with disabilities.

Ability to work with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds and a demonstrated understanding of the overall organization and relationships among and between service areas and teams.

Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others, maintain confidentiality; and to deal effectively with and negotiate through confrontational situations and stressful interactions.

Knowledge of systems providing services to people with disabilities.

Proficiency in oral and written communication, computer literacy.

Must be able to travel within the state.  May be required to travel out-of-state for trainings or conferences.
