Advocate Coordinator for Community Integration Team
Disability Rights South Carolina is the designated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) agency for South Carolina. The P&As comprise the nationwide network of congressionally created and mandated, legally based disability rights agencies. P&A agencies have the authority to provide legal representation and other advocacy services, under federal and state laws, to all people with disabilities.
DRSC is a private, statewide nonprofit which protects and advocates for the legal, civil and human rights of people with disabilities. DRSC believes that people with disabilities are people first, and are the primary decision makers in all areas of their life. This position plays a vital role in achieving these goals.
The Advocate Coordinator for Community Integration Team shall work under the general supervision of the Executive Director, with legal oversight from the Legal Director. The Advocate Coordinator will be responsible for supervising the advocates working community integration issues, which includes equal access to education, housing, employment, and public accommodations. This position is salaried and exempt from overtime pay under federal Department of Labor regulations.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to
- Monitor case assignments. The Advocate Coordinator will work with the Legal Director, and the Legal Team to assign individual cases and monitor the caseload of advocates.
- Monitor casework activity. The Advocate Coordinator will monitor casework of advocates, which includes timely response and completion of documentation or reports, regular communication with legal team and client, and accurate and up-to-date client records on the database.
- Monitor action plans. The Advocate Coordinator will work with the Legal Team and advocates to develop action plans to meet the goals of systemic work, and will monitor and report on assignments, activities, deadlines, and progress toward goals.
- Identify training needs and opportunities. The Advocate Coordinator will identify training needs, and share training opportunities with advocates.
- Attend internal meetings. The Advocate Coordinator will attend Team Leader, Legal Team and other internal meetings to provide updates.
- Attend external meetings. The Advocate Coordinator will represent DRSC at a number of external meetings, and report updates to Senior and Legal Teams.
- Monitor and report on compliance. The Advocate Coordinator will monitor for compliance with funding requirements/eligibility, and assist Executive Director and Legal Director in completing necessary reporting and data collection regarding cases and systemic goals.
- Administrative duties. The Advocate Coordinator will review and approve PTO, time reports, travel requests, and travel and purchase reimbursements of advocates.
- Assist Community Integration team with cases and systemic projects.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Master’s degree from an accredited college in education, psychology, social work or a related field with a minimum of three years’ of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and a minimum of five years’ of relevant experience.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Must be highly organized, detail-oriented and analytical. Must have strong writing skills with the ability to complete and submit reports within the stringent required time limits.
Must be able to pass and maintain Federal Level 5 Security Clearance.

Problem solving skills including the ability to influence, facilitate, mediate, negotiate and manage groups and individuals.
Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others, maintain confidentiality and to deal effectively with and negotiate through confrontational situations and stressful interactions.
Knowledge of systems providing services to people with disabilities, disability laws and regulations, and the ability to communicate with people with disabilities.
Proficiency in oral and written communication, and in using computers for word processing, data collection and communication.
Must be able to travel within the state. May be required to travel out-of-state for trainings or conferences.
