DRSC Welcomes New Board Member Duncan Winburn
September 28, 2026
Duncan Winburn, J.D., recently graduated from the University of SC Joseph F. Rice School of Law. Studying law is his way of pursuing his passion: fighting for the rights of those who historically have not had a voice.
Just some of Duncan’s hard work:
- As a member of the school’s Moot Court competition team, he won the right to argue his case in front of the South Carolina Supreme Court and won his argument.
- Chosen by the Furman University TEDx conference, he spoke about subminimum wages for people with disabilities to get rid of them in South Carolina. Then, in Spring 2022, he spoke twice at the SC State House supporting a bill which passed in May 2022 and made it illegal to pay people with disabilities below the minimum wage.
- He worked at SC Appleseed Legal Justice Center, doing research to support advocacy work.
- He worked at Able SC, writing instructions to use if another pandemic happened. He was also an EQUIP leader, holding classes to teach community skills.
While at Westwood High School, Duncan created an annual event called Star Day, where the Arts students and Special Education students come together to create!
At Furman University, Duncan graduated with a degree in sociology. He worked with the disabilities office, theatre department, and even Furman’s police force to make Furman’s roads and buses more accessible.
Duncan joined the DRSC board to use his legal skills to keep fighting for disability rights.
For fun, Duncan enjoys spending time out with friends and family, seeing movies, being active in any way that is fun, and playing video games.
