Voting Absentee During COVID-19

Did you know you can vote in the upcoming elections without leaving your house? This is called voting absentee. Voting absentee is a way to vote without risking your health.

To vote on Election Day, you need to be registered. Register to vote online or check your registration status at https://www.scvotes.org/.

Who can vote absentee?

  • People with disabilities
  • People 65 years of age or older
  • And many others! Visit https://scvotes.org/ to see if you can vote absentee.

How do I vote absentee?

In Person:

  1. Visit your county’s voter registration office.
  2. Complete an absentee application.
  3. Cast your ballot.

You can vote absentee until 5:00 pm the day before the election. Photo ID rules apply.

By Mail:

  1. Apply to vote absentee. Go to https://www.scvotes.org/ and click on “Get My Absentee Application.” You can also call, mail, email, or fax your county’s voter registration office. They will send the application to your house.
  2. Now that you have your application, answer all the questions. Then, sign your name. Return it to your county’s voter registration office four days before the election. You can return the application by mail, email, fax, or in person.
  3. Check the mail for your ballot.
  4. Now that you have your ballot, follow the instructions provided and vote!
  5. Mail your ballot to your county’s voter registration office by 7:00 pm on Election Day.

When do I vote?

June 9, 2020 Statewide Primary. To vote in this election, start Step One as soon as possible.

November 3, 2020 Statewide General Election. To vote in this election, start Step One on October 5.
