We Want to Help
We offer many types of services to help you protect your rights, including information and referral, assistance with self-advocacy, legal advice, trainings, and legal support. Our services are free of charge to all residents of South Carolina with a disability. We can also provide information and technical assistance to family members and professionals advocating for people with disabilities in South Carolina.
We provide resources and help callers understand and advocate for their disability rights. Our Information and Referral (I&R) Team has a lot of experience working with people with disabilities. We understand the challenges you may face. When you contact us one of our I&R team members will start by asking you questions about yourself and the problem you are having. One of our main goals is helping people be effective advocates for themselves and their loved ones. Our staff have lots of self-advocacy materials to help you learn your rights and how to advocate for yourself.
What is Self-Advocacy
Self-Advocacy is learning how to speak up for yourself, making your own decisions about your own life, learning how to get information so that you can understand things that are of interest to you, finding out who will support you in your journey, knowing your rights and responsibilities, problem solving, listening and learning, reaching out to others when you need help and friendship, and learning about self-determination.
