DRSC Project Announcement: Examining Employment Services for People with Disabilities

We’re excited to announce a project at DRSC focused on improving employment services for people with disabilities in South Carolina. Employment offers independence, community, and purpose, but many people need support to succeed in the workforce. This project will take a close look at how current programs are working and where they can improve.
DRSC is looking into employment services for people on the Intellectual Disabilities and Related Disabilities (ID/RD), Head and Spinal Cord Injuries (HASCI), and Community Supports Medicaid waivers. For some people with disabilities, support in learning employment skills and obtaining and maintaining employment are integral to their success. These waivers can provide career preparation and employment services for people with employment goals helping provide much-needed support to achieve their employment goals. Many times, people on these waivers are referred to the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department (SCVRD) for employment services. At DRSC, we want to understand what’s working—and what’s not—with these services that support career readiness and employment.
